In Memory Of Eddie Guerrero (1967 – 2005) – a Legend
“Cheat to win” and “I lie! Cheat! I steal!” are the catch phrase of the late Eduardo Gory Guerrero, a Mexican-American professional wrestler born into a wrestling family on October 9, 1967 in El Paso, Texas. He was trained by his father, Gory Guerrero, a wrestler in Mexico, a prominent wrestling trainer and an influential figure in Mexican professional wrestling. His mother is Herlinda Yanez, sister of professional wrestlers Enrique, Mario and Sergio Yanez. His three brothers Chavo, Hector and Mando Guerrero are professional wrestlers as well. Eduardo was raised in El Paso, Texas and attended the University of New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands University on an athletic scholarship and wrestled collegiately before returning to El Paso to train as a professional wrestler. He married Vickie Guerrero on April 24, 1990 and had two daughters: Shaul Marie (born October 14, 1990) and Sherilyn Abmer (born July 8, 1995).
He also had another daughter: Kaylie Marie (born 2002) with Tara Maloney during his separation with Vickie however before Kaylie was born he had reconciled with Vickie and renewed their wedding vows soon afterwards. Eddie Guerrero, Black Tiger (New Japan), Eddy Guerrero, Mascara Magica,Gory Guerrero Jr., Latino Heat (WWF), and El Caliente (WCW) were his ring names but he used Eddie Guerrero in ECW. His debut as a professional wrestler was in 1987 and had joined several wrestling competitions like Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion (1992-1994), New Japan Pro Wrestling (1993-1996), Extreme Championship Wrestling (1995), World Championship Wrestling (1995-2000), World Wrestling Federation (First run, 2000-2001) and World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment (Second run, 2002-2005).
His last match was set to face Batista and Randy Orton in a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship taping for SmackDown on November 13, 2005 to be aired on November 18, 2005. However, Eddie Guerrero was found unconscious in his hotel room (The Marriott City Center) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 13, 2005 by his nephew, Chavo. He attempted to do CPR on Guerrero but he was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived on the scene. It was found that he died of acute heart failure arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. With his death, the episodes of Raw on November 14, 2005 and
SmackDown! On November 18, 2005 each aired as tributes to Guerrero. With his achievements in his long career as a wrestler he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 1, 2006 by Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero and Chris Benoit in Chicago, Illinios on the night before the 22nd anniversary of WrestleMania. On November 13, 2008, on the third year of his death, Batista, Rey Mysterio and CM Punk performed tribute to Guerrero by using his moves at a WWE house show on their European Tour from Northern Ireland.
