WWE Extreme Rules 2009 Full Highlights (Sunday, June 7)
Fatal Four Way Match for The United States Championship
The PPV kicked thing off with a Fatal Four Way for the WWE United States title with Kofi Kingston defending his title against MVP, Matt Hardy, and William Regal. Kingston was at a disadvantage as his rivals didn’t need to pin him in order to win the title. The scramble ends with Kingston retaining his title after he connects with a Trouble in Paradise on William Regal for the pin fall.

Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio in No Holds Barred Match for The Intercontinental Championship
We see Chris Jericho against Rey Mysterio for Mysterio’s WWE Intercontinental Championship in a No Holds Barred match. Chris Jericho comes from the crowd before the match and cuts a promo. He’s at the merchandise stands full of Mysterio masks, insulting Mysterio for hiding behind a mask and deceiving little children. Jericho ends up winning the Intercontinental Title for the record 9th time! Mysterio goes for a 619 on Jericho but misses, Jericho then grabs Mysterio’s mask off and follows it up with a roll up for the pin. Mysterio runs up the ramp covering his face as Jericho celebrates his win in the ring.

CM Punk vs. Umaga
The next match pits CM Punk against Umaga in a Samoan Strap match. In order to win, the competitors must consecutively touch the pads in each corner while a strap is used to tie both men together. Punk wins this contest after executing a Go to Sleep on Umaga, knocking him unconscious. Punk then goes ahead and touches the last pad to gain the victory.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian vs. Jack Swagger for The ECW Championship
Backstage, Gregory Helms interviews ECW Champion Christian about the Triple Threat match against Tommy Dreamer and Jack Swagger. He jokes about Dreamer’s body looking like a melting candle. Dreamer then joins the interview and the two competitors start to argue. Swagger comes in wanting to talk but Christian and Dreamer both walk away before Swagger could start.
We now go to the Triple Threat match for the ECW Championship. If Dreamer loses the match, then it will be his final match ever in the WWE. Weapons are aplenty in the match since it’s under extreme rules. The finish saw Swagger plant Christian’s face in the exposed turnbuckle and attempts a Gutwrench Powerbomb. Dreamer then hits a cracking Singapore cane across Swagger’s chest and drops Christian. Swagger then falls victim to a vicious DDT from Dreamer. Dreamer goes for the cover and becomes the new ECW Champion.

Santina Marella vs. Vickie Guerrero in Hog Pen Match for Miss WrestleMania
Next, we see Jerry Lawler interviewing Raw GM Vickie Guerrero about her upcoming Hog Pen match against Santina Marella. She then turns it into a handicap match by adding her nephew Chavo Guerrero on her side to the match, much to his chagrin. Santina was able to pin Vickie after Chavo accidentally throws slop on Vickie after Santina ducks. Santina then pours slop over Chavo and covers his head with a bucket. Santina punches the bucket then turns on Vickie to get the pin. Santina goes up the ramp celebrating while Chavo and Vickie are both covered in mud.

Batista vs. Randy Orton in Steel Cage Match
The steel cage is lowered for the WWE Championship match with Randy Orton defending the title against Batista. Legacy was unable to help their leader retain the title because of the steel cage. Randy Orton tried several times to escape but was hit with a Batista Bomb and lost the WWE Championship to Batista. Batista climbs up the cage, holds the title up high and shouts, “This is for you, Ric!”

John Cena vs. Big Show (Submission Match)
John Cena tried to lock in the STF on the Big Show several times but due to the giant’s size, Cena was only able to apply the hold at the finish. The Big Show looked like his was going to get the win as he locked Cena in a bear hug. However, Cena was able to break free and hits a leg drop off the ropes, locks the STF on Big Show. The Big Show then taps out and Cena wins the Submission Match!

Jeff Hardy vs. Edge for the World Heavyweight Champion
The last match of the night had Edge defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Jeff Hardy in a Ladder Match. Edge was able to get his hand on the title but Hardy was able to pull Edge’s legs and trap them in between the ladders. Hardy then climbs up and gets his prize, the World Heavyweight Championship.
Jeff Hardy celebrates his title win but CM Punk’s music hit and he will be cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase! Punk hits the GTS on Hardy but Hardy was able to kick out after a 2 count. Hardy counters into an inside cradle, nearly pinning Punk. CM Punk then kicks Hardy and connects on another GTS, he covers Hardy and gets the win! CM Punk spoils Jeff Hardy’s party and becomes the new World Heavyweight Champion!
