WWE Studios - Movies and StoryWWE Films was created in 2002 as a subsidiary of World Wrestling Entertainment but later renamed WWE Studio on July 21, 2008 to further represent the expansion of the WWE subsidiary.
They have co-produced 4 films namely: The Scorpion King starring The Rock in 2002; The Rundown starring The Rock in 2003; Walking Tall starring The Rock in 2004; Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia starring Mr. Kennedy in 2009.

 

 

As sole producers they have produced a total of 5 movies to date namely; The Mania of WrestleMania in 2004, See No Evil in 2006 starring Kane, The Marine in 2006 starring John Cena, The Condemned in 2007 starring Stone Cold Steve Austin and the latest one starring John Cena, 12 Rounds.

Before the creation of WWE Films, WWE had produced the 1989 movie, No Holds Barred starring Hulk Hogan. In order to target younger audience, all movies are switched from rated R to PG-13.

The Scorpion King (2002) - Movies and StoryThe Scorpion King (2002) – is directed by Chuck Russell and stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Kelly Hu, Steven Brand, Ralf Moeller and Grant Heslov. It follows the story of Mathayus the Scorpion King, the character featured in the Mummy Returns. The warlord Memnon has conquered most of the known world aided by the beautiful sorceress Cassandra; in an effort to stop Memnon the few remaining tribes hired Matthayus (the last of the Akkidian mercenaries) to kill Cassandra. Matthayus was betrayed by one of the tribe leader’s son and eventually set out to team up with Balthazar and others to defeat Memnon and become the Scorpion King with Cassandra as his queen.

 

The Run Down (2003) - Movies and StoryThe Run Down (2003) – is an action film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Sean William Scott; the second movie directed by actor Peter Berg. It follows the story of Beck (Johnson) a professional bounty hunter on his last job before retiring to bring home his boss’ son, Travis, an archaeologist from the Amazon Jungle. Beck found Travis in the Brazilian rainforest where the townspeople is manipulated and used as low wage slave workers by a greedy man, Hatcher (Christopher Walken). Travis would not go home willingly with Beck until he finds the artifact and use it to buy the townspeople their freedom, so Beck agreed to let Travis find the artifact and together they went on to the search but ran into a group of local rebels led by Mariana (Rosario Dawson) who went with them on their search. The three found the location of the Gato but by nightfall, Mariana induced Beck and Travis with a toxic, hallucinogenic plant and took the Gato. The following morning, Beck learned that Mariana has been captured by Hatcher, the two went to town and Hatcher learning of their return sent his gunmen down to kill them. Beck who vowed never to use guns was forced to do so exposing his skill as a marksman. Hatcher was shot freeing Mariana and agreed to leave the townspeople free. Mariana and the townspeople were left with the Gato and both Travis and Beck went home to the United States.

 

Walking Tall (2004) - Movies and StoryWalking Tall (2004) – is a remake of Phil Karlson’s 1973 hit movie of the same title. It stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Johnny Knoxville and is based on the real life of Sheriff Buford Pusser though the main character’s name was changed to Chris Vaughn and the setting was changed. It follows the story of Chris Vaughn (Johnson) a former Special Forces agent who returns to his hometown to find out the town is gripped in evil vice. The old mill which used to be the town’s main source of income is now replaced by a casino owned by his old high school buddy, Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough). In an effort to clean the town of its vice, Vaughn won the election for sheriff with the help of his old friend Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville). He put an end to Hamilton’s reign, closed the casino and reopened the mill and put Hamilton to arrest for drugs and other illegal activities.

 

Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia (2009) - Movies and StoryBehind Enemy Lines: Colombia (2009) – stars Kenneth Anderson known to WWE as Mr. Kennedy. It is the 3rd installment of the series, the sequel to Behind Enemy Lines (2001) and Behind Enemy Lines II: Axis of Evil. It follows the story of a brigade of US Navy Seals who were ordered to ensure that peace talks between the guerilla leaders and the country’s government do not result into violence. But some complications took place resulting to leaders from both side killed leaving the SEALS framed for the attack. Now they have to prove their innocence fighting on their own lives while keeping the violence under control.

The Mania of WrestleMania (2004) - Movies and StoryThe Mania of WrestleMania (2004) – is a documentary following the WWE roster all the way through the WrestleMania XIX. WrestleMania XIX was produced as a professional pay-per-view event by World Wrestling Entertainment. Took place at Seattle, Washington on March 30, 2003. It features performances from the Smackdown brand having the main match of Kurt Angle versus Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship and the RAW brand with their main match of Triple H and Booker T for the World Heavyweight Championship.

 

 

See No Evil (2006) - Movies and StorySee No Evil (2006) – is the first major film produced by WWE Films, starring professional wrestler Kane (Glenn Jacobs) and directed by Dan Madigan. It is a horror movie which follows the story of a four hundred pounds psychopath who was shot in the head by a cop and resided in the now abandoned Blackwell Hotel. A group of delinquents were assigned to do community service by cleaning the hotel led by the very same cop who shot the psychopath in the head. Now they must fight for their lives against this indestructible force of nature who’s got a bloodlust to satisfy.

 

 

The Marine (2006) - Movies and StoryThe Marine (2006) – is an action film written by Michelle Gallagher, directed by John Bonito and produced by WWE Films. It stars Smackdown Champion John Cena. It follows through the story of John Triton (Cena), a former Marine who went home from Iraq and his wife Kate (Carlson) as they went into vacation only to have Kate kidnapped by a bunch of renegades. John went into pursuit of the small bond of renegades to rescue his wife and to make sure the bandits receive the punishment they deserve.

 

 

 

The Condemned (2007) - Movies and StoryThe Condemned (2007) – is a 2007 action film, directed by Scott Wiper and stars “Stone ColdSteve Austin. It follows the story of Jack Conrad (Austin) a death row inmate who was purchased by a wealthy producer and brought down to an island in the South Pacific where he’s given the chance to earn his freedom by fighting to death against nine other convicts in an illegal broadcasted all over the internet.

 

 

 

 

12 Rounds (2009) - Movies and Story12 Rounds (2009) – is a 2009 action film starring John Cena and directed by Renny Harlin. It follows the story of Danny Fisher (John Cena) a detective who must complete a series of impossible puzzles and tasks, a total of 12 rounds, to save the life of his fiancée Molly (Ashley Scott) who was abducted by international terrorist, Miles Jackson (Aidan Gillen).

 

 

 

 

WWE Studios has a lot of projects currently worked on, hinted in an interview with John Cena is a planned DVD remake of the film “Missing in Action” by Chuck Norris. A comedy movie, with Big Show as the lead character titled “Suckerpunch”. Another movie they are working on is a sequel to John Cena’s The Marine starring professional wrestler Ted TiBiase Jr and several more movies which are yet to be announced.
