Layla El was born on June 25, 1978 London, England and is of North African heritage. She is a model, dancer, actress and a professional wrestler. As a dancer she has worked for Carnival Cruise Lines and Miami Heat and has danced behind Kanye West at the MTV Music Awards.

She started out with WWE when her trainer suggested that she participate in the $250,000 Diva Search in 2006 where she gained a week’s immunity after winning Sgt. Slaughter’s Diva Boot Camp obstacle course. This was taped on July 10 but was shown on the July 14 edition of Smackdown. On the August 11 of Smackdown she won the “Diva Search Talent Show” by dancing as a Police Officer. On the finals on August 16 she won the Diva Search defeating JT Tinney and Jen England.

As the first African-American to win the WWE Diva Search, she had her pro-wrestling training with the likes of Dave Finlay, Jessie Hernandez and the Pro Wrestling Alliance (PWA) staff. She made her first apperance on WWE at the 2006 SummerSlam pay-per-view in a backstage segment with other divas where they taunted and teased her saying that its part of the initiation. Layla was dragged fully clothed into the shower where she was spanked playfully.

She started working on Smackdown as a backstage interview having her first interview with The Miz, she was not able to say much as The Miz proceeded on talking on and on about himself. She has gotten into several mini feuds with Kristal and Jillian Hall and went missing on WWE for a couple of weeks. She reappeared on October’s No Mercy event tricking The Miz into getting a Lap Dance as a present from Big Dick Johnson. Layla made her official in-ring debut on October 24 in a Diva Trick or Treat Battle Royal where she lose because The Miz pulled her from the ring apron. A mini fued insued with Layla teaming up with The Boogeyman against The Miz and Kristal.

She was moved to the ECW brand on Januray 23, 2007 where she teamed up with Brooke and Kelly Kelly as Extreme Expose, where they would perform a weekly dance segment. The ladies danced weekly on ECW for months but was disbanded when The Miz was also placed on ECW and the girls actively pursued him. As Extreme Expose disbanded and with Brooke released from WWE, Layla and Kelly appeared as on going rivals with more active in-ring roles.

Layla was part of the WWE Supplemental Draft in 2008 and as a result she was moved to the RAW brand making her the first ever diva to be a official member of all three brands. She became King of Ring winner William Reagal’s offical valet accompanying him to the ringside every match.

Aside from wrestling she has also appeared on cameo roles on television shows such as Project Runway and Family Feud (WWE edition) and has appeared with other divas on the 2009 edition of flex magazine. Despite being tough on the ring, Layla admitted to being afraid of Roller Skates.
