Melina Nava Perez was born on March 9, 1979 and is of Mexican and American heritage, she speaks English and Spanish fluently. She started her wrestling training at the EWF School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino, California and started taking wrestling seriously when she was approached by Mike Henderson who advised her that getting into the wrestling business would be a great move for her. She joined WWE in 2004 starting out as a manager for the tag team of MNM, managing the team to three reigns as WWE Tag Team Champions.

Before becoming a professional wrestler, Melina started out her career as a model and has modeled athletic wear, Nike and has also won a Miss California beauty contest. During the late 2002, Melina auditioned for the World Wrestling Entertainment’s reality show Tough Enough II where she made it to the final twenty-one before getting eliminated from the competition. After she was eliminated, Al Snow, advised and encouraged Melina to keep trying to pursue her dream as a professional wrestler.

She started making appearances on WWE’s developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling in March 2004 as John Hennigan’s ex-girlfriend. It was in OVW where the MNM trio was formed consisting of John Hennigan who changed his ring name to Johnny Nitro, Joey Matthews later known as Joey Mercury and of course Melina Perez. Melina managed the trio to win the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship and it was during her time in OVW where she came up with her trademark split ring entrance with the aid of Nitro and Steven Adkins.

Melina made her debut on Monday Night Raw on November 29, 2004 participating in Randy Orton’s “Diva Lingerie” contest and she continued to make several appearances with other divas in WWE however at some point she was taken off RAW. She returned in April 2005 as a valet for the Smackdown tag team: MNM and on that same month she help the team become the tag team champion. As is the usual case with the Divas of WWE, Melina got into a catfight with Michelle McCool and went on confrontations with other Smackdown Divas such as Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson. She defeated Torri in the 2005 Great American Bash Pay Per View.
She has feuded with Christy Hemme defeating Christy in a Wrestling match on the September 30th’s episode of Smackdown. On November 14, 2005 special edition of RAW, she won a Nine-Diva Inter-promotional Battle Royal after which she challenged Trish Stratus to a Women’s Title Match. When Melina transitioned from Smackdown to Raw, the feud between her and Trish reignited and she has formed friendship with Mick Foley. On December 29, 2008 Melina won a six-woman battle royal and on January 29, 2009 she won her third WWE Women’s championship at the Royal Rumble defeating Beth Phoenix. She has also competed in a 25 diva battle royal during the WrestleMania 25 but lost it to Santino Marella.
