Mike Knox is a professional wrestler currently working under the Smackdown banner. Born in San Bernardino, California on July 17, 1978, Mike Knox has been in the wrestling circuit before he emerged in the WWE. He had earlier worked for Ultimate Pro Wrestling in 2000, where he was both a partner and opponent to current TNA wrestler Samoa Joe.
He was also part of the Impact Zone Wrestling roster during 2002-2005 where he was a 2-time IZW Heavyweight Champion and IZW Tag Team Champion.
Knox debuted during the early days of ECW on Sci-Fi in June 2006, as a heel character with an exhibitionist on-screen girlfriend played by Kelly Kelly. He would run down to the ring with a towel whenever Kelly had the urge to striptease the audience. This would eventually lead to a huge push, feuding with popular ECW mainstay and then-champion CM Punk. Kelly would switch allegiances over to Punk after Knox had become increasingly jealous. He attacked Kelly with a reverse spinning STO, which was his way of breaking up with her. His feud with Punk ended in defeat every single match that the two had. He wrestled in an elimination-type match in Survivor Series 2006, only to meet a superkick from Shawn Michaels. To add insult to injury, after Shawn Michaels pinned him, Michaels turned to his corner and asked his team who Knox was. Michaels was referring to Knox’s very generic wrestling style and appearance, making him a virtual unknown in the WWE’s roster.
In a span of months during late 2006 up to early 2007, Knox appeared rarely on television. This was probably due to the fact that he had been moved back to the WWE’s training facilities in Georgia and later in Florida. He later returned to ECW, again renewing his feud with CM Punk, with the same results as Punk ended up getting the upper hand.
After a series of losses to Punk, he feuded with ECW Original Tommy Dreamer, whom he managed to defeat in a series of matches. His first major impact happened after he was moved over to the WWE RAW roster. Knox had the opportunity to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a pay-per-view match in No Way Out but his run didn’t last long as he was the second entrant to be eliminated in the Elimination Chamber match by Chris Jericho.
As part of the annual WWE Supplemental draft, Mike Knox was moved over to the WWE Smackdown show where he currently wrestles.
