His real name is Oscar Gutierrez, born December 12, 1974 in Chula Vista, California. He has 2 kids with his wife, Angelica, named Dominick and Aalyah. He trained under his uncle, luchador Rey Misterio. When he turned 18, he was allowed by his uncle to use the name Rey Mysterio Jr. He initially wrestled in Mexico before moving to Extreme Championship wrestling. His matches with fellow luchadors Psicosis and Juventud Guerrera were considered as top notch, eventually getting the attention of World Championship Wrestling. He signed with WCW in 1996.

Rey Mysterio, Jr. (Oscar Gutierrez) Biography He was a mainstay in the cruiserweight division of WCW. Mysterio won the WCW Cruiserweight title after only spending 3 weeks in the company, defeating Dean Malenko and holding the title for 3 months. At Halloween Havoc, Malenko regained the title. Mysterio then feuded with Eddie Guerrero with Mysterio forced to join Guerrero’s Latino World Order after losing. In 1999, he was forced to unmask after losing a tag team match against Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. In 2000, he joined the New Blood, WCW’s attempt to shake up the ratings war against WWF. When WCW was bought out by WWF, Mysterio was left out and didn’t appear in television for a year.
Rey Mysterio, Jr. (Oscar Gutierrez) Biography In July 2002, he debuted in Smackdown wearing his mask again. Teaming up with Edge, they were able to capture the WWE Tag Team titles after defeating Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. Mysterio and Edge would soon focus on singles wrestling after losing the title after holding it for just 12 days. He would then go on to win the Cruiserweight title 3 times and hold the tag titles with friend Eddie Guerrero. They soon started a storyline where Guerrero was becoming increasingly jealous of Mysterio’s success and due to the fact that Eddie has never beaten him in a singles match in the WWE. When Guerrero was found dead in his hotel room, Mysterio would dedicate his matches in memory of his friend.

Rey Mysterio, Jr. (Oscar Gutierrez) Biography Mysterio would soon receive a huge push. In Royal Rumble 2006, he surprised everyone by winning the battle royal. At WrestleMania 22, he became the World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Kurt Angle and Randy Orton in a triple threat match. He celebrated his victory in the ring with Vicky and Chavo Guerrero. They soon turned on him in the following months, costing Mysterio the title belt. Chavo challenged him to an “I Quit” match, which Mysterio lost to allow him to take time off wrestling.

In SummerSlam 2007, Rey made his successful return by defeating Chavo which eventually led to another “I Quit” match at Smackdown. This time, Rey got his revenge on Chavo, making him quit after hitting Chavo’s knee repeatedly with a steel chair. He then began his quest to regain his title, challenging Edge. Unfortunately, Rey suffered a biceps injury which would keep him out of the ring for at least 6 months, with his injury needing 3 surgeries to repair. In his return in 2008, he feuded with Kane, who tried to unmask Mysterio. In WrestleMania 25, he became a Triple Crown winner by capturing the Intercontinental title from JBL. He was then drafted back to Smackdown, bringing the title with him to the brand.
