Tazz (Peter Senerchia) Biography Tazz is a former professional wrestler who gained popularity in the original Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion run by Paul Heyman. After his work with ECW, he worked with the World Wrestling Federation and shortened his ring-name to Taz. He is also known by the moniker “The Human Suplex Machine”.

He achieved most success during his stint with ECW where he held the ECW World Heavyweight Champion twice, the ECW World Television Championship twice, and ECW World Tag Team Championship thrice. Aside from these titles, he was also the inaugural ECW FTW (F*ck the World) Heavyweight Champion. The FTW Championship has similar status with Ted DiBiase’s “Million Dollar Championship” and was not an officially sanctioned title but nevertheless was held up for bragging rights.

His real name is Peter Senerchia, born on October 11, 1967 in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York but currently resides in Massapequa, New York with his wife Theresa Smith and son, Tyler. Prior to his wrestling career, Tazz also studied judo. He has a tattoo of the Looney Tunes character and namesake on his left biceps.

Tazz made his professional wrestling debut on 1987 in a wrestling show in Puerto Rico. During those days, his ring name was still Kid Krush but later changed it to The Tazmaniac, a name that would stick throughout his career.

He wrestled for ECW from 1993-1999 where he debuted as part of the tag team “The Tazmaniacs” along with Jack Dick. Kevin Sullivan took Dick’s place after the duo team broke up and they won the ECW Tag Team Championships twice. Tazz became a double champion when he captured the ECW Television Title in March 1994.

Tazz suffered a career-threatening injury in 1995 after Dean Malenko delivered a spike piledriver on him but Tazz didn’t have enough time to prepare himself for the impact. Although the injury was really bad, Tazz still walked into the hospital to get treatment.

He also held the tag team title belt with Sabu. Controversy ensued as Sabu was fired by Paul Heyman due to Sabu’s no-show at an ECW event because of a more lucrative offer in Japan. Tazz and Sabu would then feud with Sabu’s departure made as the ignition point. Both men battled each other throughout 1996-1997 and even had a brawl at Monday Night Raw.

Tazz debuted for the WWF in the 2000 edition of Royal Rumble where he defeated Kurt Angle. In a bizarre twist of events, Tazz had to go back to ECW and wrestle ECW Heavyweight Champion Mike Awesome, who was now a WCW wrestler. Paul Heyman didn’t want Awesome going over to WCW carrying the ECW title so Awesome had to drop the title to Tazz. After 10 days, Tazz then dropped the ECW title to Tommy Dreamer. During the Invasion storyline, Tazz slowly transitioned into doing color commentary, filling in for Jerry Lawler, and defended the WCW/ECW faction. Even though he won the WWF Tag Team Championship with Spike Dudley, mounting injuries forced him to retire from in-ring activities.

From 2002-2009, Tazz became a full-fledged color commentator for the WWE, working under the SmackDown and ECW brands. On April 3, 2009, Tazz left the company after fulfilling his contractual duties for the WWE.
