After the unfortunate 18th birthday party of Bella Swan, the family of Edward Cullen has left the town of Forks, Washington as a move to protect her from the posed threats of their kind of world. As the heartbroken and sad Bella goes through the last year in high school alone and empty, she sees the image of Edward helping her whenever she is in danger. She was willing to take up all the risks just to be with him.

With the assistance of her friend Jacob Black, Bella renovates an old big motor bike to be used on her adventures. Her cold heart was all of a sudden softened by her improving relationship with her friend, who also has his own supernatural secret. Jacob is also known as a core member of the mystical tribe of Quileute.

When Bella came face to face with an old time enemy, the coming of a pack of amazingly huge wolves saved he from the hazardous fate. The encounter just confirmed the danger that still awaits her. In a race against time, she unravels the secrets behind the Quileutes and the reason behind Edward leaving her. She also eventually has to face a threatening reunion with her most beloved that would turn out to be more than she expected for.

In the film, all of the characters were played very interestingly but the only trouble still remains with the draggy Bella character. The actress, Kirsten Stewart has shown some improvement in this sequel compared to the first one, she still looked like the most passive female protagonist amongst any other films of the same genre. Whether the scene requires some very deep emotional expression due to a loss of a beloved or just merely watching a human transform into a werewolf, her emotions remain monotonous. She could have done better if she acted a bit more lively and more aggressively, depicting the modern women of today, who are strong and gutsy. Pattinson showed almost the same level of acting as Stewart. While Fanning was the entire film’s best performance with all her brief yet impacting lines and the several stony and cold glares.

The film was matched up with great pop music and assortments to make things carry on and the visual style is a huge improvement since the first film. The good thing about New Moon is that despite the author’s tone of a serious novel, the film director was able to make it less narrow nor self-involved by inserting some light touches of humor.

The DVD release of New Moon, rated PG-13 is set to hit the scene by March 24, 2010.

If you are looking for a suspenseful and entertaining supernatural horror film that is also based on true events, look no further than The Haunting in Connecticut. Based on the terrifying story of the Campbell family, The Haunting in Connecticut is truly the quintessential haunted house story with a twist. Because the house that this family moved into was not just a house, but in reality also an old mortuary that had been used to conduct séances in the past. In addition, the home’s prior owner (and mortician) forced his own child (Jonah) to act as an unwitting demonic clairvoyant during the séances.

Because of the atrocities committed in their new home in the not-so-distant past, the Campbell family is accosted by hostile spirits and entities almost immediately upon occupying the home. And when their oldest son (deathly ill from cancer; his cancer treatments were the reason that they found themselves inhabiting the home in the first place) moves into the basement (the old morgue part of the home) things quickly go from bad to worse.

Initially, Matt Campbell believes that the visions that he is seeing and experiencing in his new home are attributable to his cancer treatment. However, after finding a cache of old photos that duplicate what he has seen; he soon realizes that he is being somehow contacted by Jonah from beyond the grave. After realizing he is not hallucinating but somehow communicating with the dead, Matt’s cancer progresses to the point where his family believes him to be terminally ill, and the manifestations in the home reach a critical level.

All in all, The Haunting in Connecticut was a well paced and entertaining horror film – because you know that it was based on actual events, it garnered some extra credibility and a higher level of freakiness. In fact, the movie seemed to bank on its ability to make viewers jump out of their seats and spill their popcorn. While it was not as terrifying as some recent horror releases, it also wasn’t particularly gory and it contained no nudity, egregious vulgarity or sexual content (which is really saying something), so it was more family friendly than most of the horror films in recent memory.

The Haunting in Connecticut is rated PG 13 and was released in theaters on March 27th 2009. It has since been released on DVD for home viewing, and it is 92 minutes long. While it may not be the best supernatural horror flick you will see this year, The Haunting in Connecticut is definitely worth a view. Even if you only rent it.

Released on DVD, The Unborn made its box office debut on January 9, 2009, and was (unfortunately) critically panned for being predictable. A supernatural horror flick, the basic premise of the story involves a dybbuk, which is a demon according to Jewish lore. It is so evil that it is denied entrance to heaven, and must wander the between the realms for all eternity. Of course, as most demons do, the dybbuk tries its best to make its way into the mortal world via a human host. In this particular film, it preys upon twins (for a plethora of confusing and contrived reasons). It basically torments them to death, and when their souls leave their bodies, it enters.

The star character in this movie, Casey Beldon has a strange dream involving a fetus, a dog, and a maske. Soon thereafter, she has a bizarre (and very disturbing) encounter with a little boy she is babysitting one night. She finds the child holding a hand mirror up to his infant sister’s face in the middle of the night, at which point he tells her that “Jumby wants to be born,” and smashes her in the face with the mirror. She sees parallels between the incident and her disturbing dream, and immediately thereafter she realizes that she is suffering from a genetic anomaly that is causing her brown eyes to gradually become blue.
Around this time, Casey begins to be plagued by disturbing ‘hallucinations;’ both auditory and visual. As she loses her grip on reality, she uncovers some shocking hidden truths about her own past as well as that of her entire family.

The Unborn was pretty predictable, as critics pointed out upon its theatrical release. However, there were some pretty good ‘jumpy’ moments here and there, and the use of the dybbuk (a demon I had never before heard of) added some uniqueness to the storyline. All in all, people are either going to really like this one or hate it like poison. Fans of this type of movie will probably enjoy it, while those who generally avoid horror movies are not going to become fans of the genre based on the viewing of this particular film. It ended up being exactly what I have come to expect from supernatural horror movies lately – mildly entertaining but far from nightmare inducing. This film is 88 minutes long and was rated PG-13 when it was released in theaters, but the DVD version includes both the originally released version as well as an unrated version.

This is a horror game full of zombies every where. A little heavy and loads slow but good graphics, special effects and music. Move on and kill them all and move on to next stage. Shed some blood. Use A, W, S, D keys to move and use mouse to aim and shoot.

The commentaries and newsgroups had been abuzz with rumors about a possible sequel bubbling up from Sam Raimi’s genius. All has been forgiven from his roll with the Spider-Man franchise as, apparently, he has started writing the script for Evil Dead 4. I’m happy that he has enough cash from the Spider-Man movies that he could bankroll another Evil Dead. But mind you, people, he is still on page 7, according to a magazine interview. He frequently works with his elder brother, Ivan, an occasional writer and doctor. With his brother, the script has been progressing. If Sam Raimi gives in to fan pleadings, we might possibly see the movie in 2010. Hardcore horror geeks are more than happy to wait.

Evil Dead 1981
Sam Raimi’s first foray into movie directing produced the cult classic Evil Dead, among others. Although conservatively budgeted at $350,000, the filming took 1.5 years to completion. In a typical Evil Dead fashion, location was in a Tennessee wilderness, in a cabin of course. And from there the story unfolded. The storyline is basically simple but laden with so much horror elements that once the action starts, its one scream fest after another: Five Michigan State University students decided to spend the weekend in an isolated cabin. There they found the Book of the Dead and a tape recording of demonic incantations. Little did they know that playing the tape would unleash the evil force that somehow possesses them one by one. As each person possessed turns into a demon, Ash Williams is forced to fight and dismember his friends as each tries to kill him. At one point, is torn in cutting up his girlfriend, Linda after she tried to stab him. In the final scuffle, as the demons took possession of Scotty and Cheryl, Ash had no choice but to throw the book into the fireplace, as it seemed to be the only solution. As dawn breaks, the demons stopped and started to rot away. Ash then walks outside and thought he had survived the ordeal; until the last remaining demon attacks him as the film ends.

Evil Dead II 1987
That cliffhanger led to Evil Dead II. The film picked up where it left off where Ash and Linda are on a romantic vacation in the cabin. Ash is forced to kill and bury Linda, after she was possessed. Here, Ash had to struggle against the evil force as it comes after him. After the struggle, the evil spirit soon possessed him but morning comes, Ash reverts back to his normal self. Ash had to work with new characters in this film as new pages of the Book of the Dead are discovered and the evil force is again re-unleashed. This is also where Ash had to sever his own hand and had to wear a fitted chainsaw to his wrist. With the help of an incantation, Ash and Annie were able to rid of the evil force but Ash somehow got sucked into the vortex. Ash then finds himself falling from the sky and lands on a rock. He was surrounded by medieval knights. Just as they were about to attack Ash, a Deadite creature swoops down and terrifies the knights. Ash then blows the Deadite’s head off with his shotgun, the knights falls to their knees as Ash had fulfilled part of the prophesy as the hero from Necronomicon.

Evil Dead: Army of Darkness 1993
Evil Dead: Army of Darkness soon followed Ash’s story in medieval England and his collaboration with Lord Arthur’s men. It’s almost the same flee or be possessed formula as the first two Evil Deads but with Ash determined to go back to his own time. Ash has to defeat the Deadites and the Army of Darkness after unwittingly releasing the evil force. He then leads the humans in defeating the Deadites. With a potion made to bring him back to his own time, he returned at the S-Mart store, relaying his medieval adventure and killing a final deadite. There’s another alternate ending to the movie, although it ends on a more negative note. As Ash prepared to take the potion that will take him back to his time, he mistakenly takes 7 drops instead of 6. This made him sleep for 700 years and woke up 100 ahead of his time where the Earth was now an post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Evil Dead followers have their own preferred version on how Evil Dead 4 should turn out and where it would pick up from Army of Darkness. While your guess is as good as mine, whatever path Sam Raimi will take Ash Williams, I will be there with a tub of popcorn and everything will just be “groovy”.
